Jacques Poli (1938 – 2002) was a French painter. He studied in the ’60s at the Beaux-Arts in Avignon and in Paris in Roger Chastel’s studio, with students such as Claude Viallat, Daniel Buren, Niele Toroni, François Rouan and Vincent Bioulès. He is part of the Narrative Figuration scene for a while, and then he develops his own style. In the beginning, he uses a spray gun to paint on waxed canvas. After 1986, he goes back to painting with brushes and creates several series of works. 1974 is characterized by the use of industrial machine in his career. He creates the series “Insects” and a model af European barocco from which he only keeps the details. In 1976 he starts teaching at the Rouen Beaux-Arts School.
